When I talk with people who are on the fence about signing up for the 21 day sugar detox, it's usually because they are scared they won't be able to 100% follow through. There are trips during the program dates and work travels and women are nervous they won't have access to clean protein, organic produce and low glycemic fruit. Here's the thing, I don't want you to be perfect. I want you to figure out how to eat while dining out, having a good time and hanging out with people. I do not want you to feel deprived or filled with FOMO because you're on a sugar detox.
I created this bonus guide for my detoxer's, but wanted to share it with you too, my loyal readers who know I am not perfect, don't want to be perfect and don't expect you to be perfect. I'm looking for an 80-90% commitment, that seems the most real. So here's how you succeed on my program, while still living your life you wild woman!
All American restaurant? Fried/Breaded = No thanks. Opt for lettuce wrapped burgers and sandwiches. Need a yummy salad but don't want to omit dressing? Ask for olive oil + fresh lemon slices and squeeze, then drizzle oil. If you are getting sweet potato fries (you badass), ask for dijon over honey mustard and ketchup.
Italian? Salads are your sisters during this sugar detox. Salads keep your blood sugar stable. Pizza spikes your blood sugar, making you crave carbs even more! Fortunately, a lot of pizza places offer gluten + dairy free pizza. I know, it doesn't sound like much fun, but as your tastebuds change, so does your waistline.
Asian? I umbrella'd Thai + Japanese under Asian. Honestly, Thai food is going to be quite difficult. Most restaurants still use MSG, bad oil and sugar. If you HAVE to go Thai, order something dry, veggies + protein. Load up on hot sauce, because there won't be any flavor without the dripping sauces. Go for sashimi and seaweed salad - say hell ya to the healthy omega's.
Mexican? My favorite. I am most def a chips and salsa girl. When I'm cutting non-nutrient carbs, like right now at 7 months pregnant, because I am not exercising as much, I try not to have chips in the house and push the chip basket towards the person sitting next to me. I might have 1 corn tortilla, which are naturally gluten free. You're safe ordering the fajitas with no sour cream or cheese. You still get tons of sauteed veggies, guacamole, beans (if your stomach can handle it, omit if you are having digestive issues), and protein. Stay away from the heavy stuff, aka burritos, stuffed tacos, churros, basically anything that makes you smile. jk...kind of. And if you MUST have a drinky drinky, opt for a skinny margarita/vodka soda with lime and lemon. *My trick is to drink club soda with lemon and lime, usually no one asks and you don't have to explain your lame drink choice.
