Two words: Tony Robbins. I recently listened to a little video he had about money. It was no longer than 5 minutes and a minute or so was bleeped because of his language! That guy is a passionate mother______. I never knew how relatable he was until I saw this video.
He talked about being wealthy in the bank, but poor as a person. He said he knew wealthy people who were rich as _____ because of their interpersonal relationships.
Finding value in your work begins with a mission that is stronger than the drive for making millions. The mission stays if the value is worth more than the money.
2 tips for creating a lasting relationship to your work:
- Is your work dedicated to something people need? Something that isn't sketchy or will make you a lot of money, but a product/service that will bring good into this world. If your mission is stronger than your want for making a lot of money, your drive will be stronger. Your product/service will be greater and the money will flow. When you create something from your heart, the money is a bonus. If you are doing something you love, because you love it, the feeling you experience when you get paid is like, "I can't believe I'm getting paid to do this work." It's what I experience when I teach yoga. I can't believe I'm getting paid to do something like guiding people through their breath, listen to awesome music and have people say thank you as they walk out the door.
- Tony taught me this: Every day you build your wealth. Capture magic moments. Stack the moments over and over again. Money is a tool. It is not the source of happiness. How much of life are you living along the way? Do you have money + wealth? How are you in your relationships, spirit and capturing the moment? If you are always operating beyond your scarcity, you are doing well. How long are you excited when you reach your goal? A day? A month? If the goal is from the heart, it will last forever. It turns your expectation for appreciation. Appreciation is the game. If you can appreciate the little things, you have gifts that no one else has. Give your heart, spirit and mentality magic moments, capture at least 2-3 grateful thoughts every day!
So you see, dedicating your life's work to something from the heart - is what it's all about.
