I see you because I am you. I do not eat super foods and chia seed pudding every day, nor do I work out every day. Some days, my body has literally taken form to the couch and my eyes glaze over as I watch my 10th inspirational video...(more like my 10th episode of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills or The Bachelorette).
I am the real me, wanting and hating structure.
When I graduated from Washington State University (Go Cougs!) I got a job at Clear Channel Communications and lasted for 8 months as a TV Sales Coordinator, inputting commercial ratings and trying to find new shows to replace other shows, based on rating scores. Writing this now, I still don't understand what I did there.
I tried so hard to like corporate jobs, took a handful of them but always ended up in the weird, part-time jobs making way less money. But my passion for health and wellness dug it's heavy feet into my heart and left footprints. In between the medical sales and film production jobs, I went to yoga and googled natural cures for illnesses. I would skip out on happy hours to catch my favorite yoga class. I would see how much money I could make in sales so I could pay for wellness retreats.
Before I knew anything about health, Luna Bars were my favorite snack. Are you thinking, "What is wrong with Luna Bars?" Check out the sugar on the back of the package...I say no more.
There are days when I don't want to be uplifting or motivating. Those are usually the days "sloth" becomes my middle name and my robe permanently attaches itself to my body. I try to fight off dear robey, but alas, we meet again.
When I got to Whole Foods, I am a woman on a mission. I think to myself, "Where are the Lily's chocolate chips, the raw coconut water and ooo....look at those organic chips and low sugar ice cream bars....STAY ON TASK...what was I doing here? OH RIGHT, HEAD TOWARDS THE SALAD BAR." After 15 minutes of pacing up and down the salad bar, I grab the Kale dressed with garlic tahini and head towards the checkout.
"That will be $45." She smiles. I smile as my head is yelling at me. $45!!!! WHAT HAPPENED?! A few chocolate chips, a salad and a couple of coconut waters. That is what happened. My receipt stares at me as I give him the finger.
I am telling you all of this because I want to be truthful. I am into the health coaching for more than looking at what you eat every day. My mission is for you to love yourself and if losing weight is your prerogative, I want you to do it the right way. The only way. Eating real food, enjoying your life and taking a few moments to be grateful for the gorgeous body, mind and spirit you were given.
Do you love yourself? Do you love your body, flaws and all?
Let's strive for happiness, not perfection. It is so much easier + way more fun. Save the worry for something that actually matters.
