There are a few ways to find out if the adrenal fatigue bug has sunk its sharp teeth into your body. I have had early symptoms for weeks, if not months, but I've tried to push through it. I think teaching fitness classes for 4+ years, subbing at different places and not resting enough finally took me to the edge.
Today I asked my Fitness Director for a few weeks off, told her the truth and all I have to do is find subs for my classes. When you speak your truth, it's amazing what can happen. As Fitness Instructors, we don't know how to find the balance, because people tell you to take time off, but it's your income, so it's tough. This week I've really tried to take the distractions or extra jobs that aren't in line with my destiny, out of my schedule. I need a few weeks off from everything, which will not only help me, it will refresh me for my people, my classes, relationships and friendships.
Seeking "balance" is the toughest thing in life. Work more, see friends less. Make more money, miss out on birthdays and special events. Teach more classes, have no time to work out. Take extra jobs, lose focus on the one that matters.
The biggest takeaway from having fatigued my adrenals is to feel less guilty about it. Why am I feeling bad for feeling bad, is it not a ridiculous concept?
Do you experience the following symptoms:
Crying often? Even if you are normally a crier, this is different. Like today, when I was driving, I started crying at the stoplight and when I got home, I cried while laying on the couch thinking about how tired I was.
Eating wholesome, delicious, good for you foods but still lacking energy to smile? I've been eating energy foods and still talking about being tired. Sometimes it is more than nutrition, it is total body wellness. I told my functional medicine doctor about it and he said that sometimes fatigue isn't due to nutrition or exercise, it can be due to unhappiness in a career. I think it's teaching too much. My body hurts. My hands hurt. Restful rest, here I come!
Less patience for people? When you are exhausted, you don't have the same energetic, chipper response. You don't have the mental capacity to carry on a conversation, nor do you care! My normal self loves to talk but I am finding that the longer this fatigue goes on, the more agitated I get.
Wondering what's wrong with you? A healthy diet, exercising 4-6+ times per week, great relationships and something is just not right. HELLO ADRENAL FATIGUE.
Digestion issues? The happy feelings (serotonin) begins in our digestion system. You might experience diarrhea or bloating if you're going through something. I've been noticing a bloated belly at night and I know it's where my stress lives.
Not wanting to do things that bring you joy? Why would you? You're exhausted! All you want to do is cry and sleep. This is when you make an appointment with a functional specialist, health coach or counselor. Give yourself a nudge in the right direction and take care of yourself!
