I say this all the time to friends and family who are struggling with weight, happiness or food choices.
YOU HAVE ONE LIFE! HOW DO YOU WANT TO LIVE IT?
If you stop reading about the juices, cleanses, eat like this, eat like that, superfoods, etc. you will start to listen how your body feels and what it wants!
When I finally lost weight the right way, the healthy way, it wasn't from calorie counting or cutting out everything I loved. I learned how to eat until I was 80% full. I allowed myself to eat what I was craving. Instead of eating "healthy food" and then eating a cookie any way. I ate the cookie and then I was over it. It was no longer a food that I viewed as evil.
It took a lot of emotional work to understand how twisted my thoughts were about food. How did I even put these negative thoughts in my mind and how was I going to eliminate them?
With the overload of nutrition information, I turn to intuitive eating. If you are taking care of your body, the relationships you are in, your career, your hobbies, then eating becomes a mindful activity. Listening to your body and what it needs is no longer a battle.
I crave sweet potatoes and I think it's because my body needs low glycemic carbs and natural sugars. I love hard boiled eggs because they fill me up and make me feel good. Spinach and kale are harder for my body to digest but I feel energetic after eating some for lunch/dinner.
And don't get me wrong, chips + salsa and chocolate are high on the cravings list. So I eat a Quest Bar and make sweet potato chips!
What do you want? How will that food make you feel? Eat intuitively.
