One day I'm going to hold a class or a series of classes and name it "Dream Building 101." I have several clients who have a job to pay the bills, but have no idea what they want to do with their lives. I get it. I know I want to be Health Coach for Women, but I know that it is not my ending goal. It's going to turn into different titles and events over and over again. But I can't let my fear of failure hold me back from pushing forward.
Here's what you need to do in order to figure out what the hell you're supposed to be doing in this life:
Don't stop. Whatever you do. Don't let someone bully you into having a plan if you don't have one. You are going somewhere. Doing something. And one day, as long as you don't stop moving forward, you will be able to connect the dots of your past + be happy for everything you did, every crappy ass position you took. It all matters. You will see.
You have to narrow down your dream job title. Is there anyone in your life where you think, "God, I wish I had that job title!" Or do you find yourself wishing you had someone else's life? Ask that person how they got there, what steps they took + ask them to mentor you. Don't be scared to get help from someone to get closer to your dream. Thank them. Show people gratitude and help others when they are in your position.
Doubt and fear is normal. Staying at a full time job to fund your dream job is a good idea. I went in head first, kept teaching yoga + barre, but for the most part, I am a full time Health Coach. I take the money I earn from the others jobs and put it back into my business. This is the first year I've taken my business seriously and put in the work. I'm by no means making a million dollars a year, but I know that the seeds I'm planting, will grow month by month, year by year. If you have to keep a full time job and do 30 minutes of your dream work a day, do that. Get what you can!!
Talk to the universe. Yes, this one sounds woo woo. But I don't give a ..... You have to write down your dreams, talk to people about them, talk to people who might be able to help you. Even if your dreams shift or change or transform, do do do should be your favorite action. DO DO DO!! Don't stop when you get somewhere, the worst thing you can do is not share your dream, even if you think someone else will steal it. That's cool. Let them. YOU ARE YOU. There is one of you, no one else like you, even if there are people who share similarities. You gotta ask yourself, what makes me me?
If you're like me and have ADD/ADHD/Fly by the seat of your pants/a plan feels stifling, too bad. Dreams are worth reining in your free spirit. Use your energy + go with the flow self to plan in your own way. Start small. Find a calendar and say every Monday, I will blog. Every Tuesday, I will try to make a new recipe. Every Wednesday, I will reach out to other small businesses. Every Thursday, I will try a new workout class, even though I like my routine. Every Friday, I will watch a motivational youtube video. Every Saturday, I will spend 2 hours outside on a walk or hike. Every Sunday, I will read.
